In an age where we are always looking for the greener way to live, lithium-ion powered equipment is again the way forward. Thanks to it producing zero emissions during use, it can deliver petrol matching power without the fuss, fumes and environmental damage.
The benefits:
Emissions
We all know that petrol is bad for the environment but that is perhaps often overlooked when it comes to grounds maintenance with some thinking it is nothing compared to the pollution from a car. In fact, it is the opposite and a recent study highlighted a 24hp petrol powered zero turn mower can produce emissions equivalent to 88 cars travelling at 55mph. If this mower runs for 5-7 hours per day it can increase to upwards of 450 cars. If the same mower works for 350 hours per year then it will produce as many emissions as 1,694,000 car miles! At Eco FM we strive to be as economical as possible and this is why we have made the decision to put lithium-ion powered equipment at the forefront of what we do.
Do not disturb
Increasing demand on landscapers working in public spaces means that it is not always possible to avoid using machinery when other people are around. With its low operating sound and lack of pungent petrol fumes, battery poses the solution to this. It is now possible to work in gardens and sports grounds, near schools, hospitals and libraries, and even in cemeteries, without disturbing the public.
Safety first
One of the biggest dangers of petrol machinery, particularly for those needing a lot of fuel, is the storage of it. Add to this the need to transport it across grounds for refuelling throughout the day and it is an accident waiting to happen! Again,a problem that is not a consideration with the safe charging and transportation of a battery.
For professional users, perhaps one of the greatest benefits of battery power is reduced vibration, making tools more comfortable to use, particularly when operating for extended periods of time. They are, therefore, rapidly being adopted by landscapers and local authorities in parks, gardens, estates and golf courses, to name just a few.
Extensive use of handheld power tools can cause Hand-Arm-Vibration syndrome (HAV), also known as 'Vibration White Finger' which causes disabling disorders of the blood vessels, nerves and joints, as well as extreme pain when exposed to cold conditions.
